A greenhouse kit built for year-round growing
Most greenhouses for sale are built for spring and fall. The Growing Dome is built for the whole year, which is why owners run them through Alaska winters and Arizona summers alike. The geodesic frame sheds snow instead of holding it and spreads the remaining load across the whole structure; the kit can be built to withstand loads of 120 pounds per square foot and more with slight modifications.
The systems inside run without grid power. Automated vents open on heat rather than electricity, so the dome sheds excess heat on hot days and keeps working through an outage. The above-ground water tank stores daytime warmth and releases it overnight, the undersoil air system carries warm air into the soil, where cold nights do the most damage, and the electrical systems, ventilation, irrigation, and monitoring, run on solar.

Tomatoes under six feet of Alaska snow
In Haines, Alaska, Mardell and Diz grow tomatoes in a 26 foot Growing Dome that has carried nearly six feet of wet snow at one time. They report they never worried about the structure, and wind had no effect.

Two decades at Rodale Institute
Rodale Institute, the most respected name in American organic agriculture, has run Growing Domes at its Kutztown, Pennsylvania garden for nearly two decades. Through the below-zero winter of 2014, their unheated 22 foot dome held interior lows just under freezing and carried hardy greens through under straw mulch.
