Planting & Growing High Yield Fruits & Vegetables in a Growing Dome

Part of growing a successful survival garden is picking suitable crops and incredibly nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables that are easy to grow and capable of maximizing food production.

Starchy root vegetables such as carrots, beets, radishes, and turnips will provide plenty of calories and are easily stored long-term. Plant them in your Growing Dome’s central bed where the temperature is more stable, allowing the roots to grow big and strong. Consider planting a fruiting tree nearby, such as fig. Not only will it provide figs year after year, but the tree will also serve as a companion plant, providing shade and extending the season of your root vegetables.

Use the raised beds around the perimeter of your growing space to focus on fruit production that can be dried and preserved. Things like tomatoes, peppers, and berries will be a great source of antioxidants throughout the winter. Certain fruiting crops such as squash, green beans, and greenhouse variety cucumbers should be planted closer to the south side for extra heat and sun.

Use the space outside of your Growing Dome to plant flowers that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies! You can construct raised beds or plant directly into the earth, depending on your soil type.

Today, more than ever, people and communities are focused on becoming more self-sustaining and preparing for an uncertain future. Whether you are starting your version of the modern homestead or just looking to create a more self-sufficient lifestyle, the most critical aspect of becoming more self-reliant is growing your own food.
