Concerned about health and food security? The Growing Dome can help…

‘It’s really difficult to get fresh produce here

to Nikolski, Alaska’

The Tribal Council of Nikolski, Alaska was looking for a way to increase food security for the local residents. They knew that a greenhouse would be necessary, but were unsure how one would perform in the harsh, unstable weather conditions that the village experiences. They found their  greenhouse solution, not just a greenhouse: A Growing Dome.

“Seeds of promise planting gardens of hope”

Global Children’s Garden has joyfully been involved in the development, funding and construction of several Growing Spaces greenhouses. The focus of this organization is the education that children can gain from connecting with nature.

The GCG has enabled many to experience all that the Growing Domes have to offer by sponsoring community dome projects. Aside from the many Growing Dome greenhouses they have supported across Colorado, in 2008 the GCG completed the Cienega, Mexico dome project in conjunction with the Tarahumara Indians.

Toyota: Making a difference!

The time is now!   Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – REPEAT!

51' Growing Dome @ Toyota

Toyota took an enormous step towards reducing the carbon footprint that the automobile manufacturing plant puts out while making its products. Employees at Toyota’s Kentucky plant—which is Toyota’s largest manufacturing facility in North America- were given a different “eco-savvy” benefit plan.

In  2005, Toyota purchased a 51 foot diameter Growing Dome from Growing Spaces. This Growing Dome provides a place to grow fresh vegetables & herbs for enjoyment by the many families that the plant employees.

In addition to the dome greenhouse, Toyota has provided the plant with a composting system & water recycling program. The food scraps generated from the lunch room go directly into the compost, which is eventually mixed into the soil that goes into the Growing Domes’ planting beds.

Year round abundance from Growing Dome

…delightfully named Manna Rose

Seedlings inside the 42' dome at Hummingbird Living School

While winter winds & snow sweep the length and breadth of the ranch at Hummingbird Living School, inside the dome it’s a cozy 65º and rising as the morning sun shines into the translucent geodesic greenhouse.

Our 42-foot dome was erected in four days, but that was only the beginning.  It’s an ongoing community effort to set up the water tank, build the loft and haul many wheelbarrows of rich soil into the structure for the beds.  And we love it all! The peripheral ring of beds is complete and already home to tender sprouting plants.

We are thankful to Hummingbird Stewards Ami Spangler and Michael Elliott for holding the vision and being the driving force behind this beautiful addition to our sustainability. Manna Rose is a place of joy, abundance and gratitude.”
